Why now: Open sourcing for institutional AI readiness
Releasing our multi-tenant courseware platform isn’t just about aligning with OER, it’s about giving institutions and publishers real control in shaping AI-enhanced learning. AI marks a turning point: educators and publishers can either remain passive participants in tools built by others or help design systems that reflect their own values, strategies, and equity commitments.
To support both paths, we’re releasing the platform under a dual-license model: AGPL v3 license and a Commercial license.
This removes traditional barriers to experimentation and development. Organizations can integrate their own AI tools, control data flows for privacy and compliance, and prototype new AI-enhanced workflows—without vendor lock-in.
Whether self-hosted or managed, the goal is the same: put control back in the hands of educators and education publishers. This release lays the groundwork for our forthcoming Open Source to AI initiative: a roadmap for intentional, transparent AI adoption in education.
